Community designs

The following documents are necessary for registering a community design:

  • Applicant details
  • Designer details (optional)
  • Priority details
  • Representation of the design (in form of one or more photographs or drawings, black-and-white or color, showing the characteristic features of the design)
  • Power of attorney

The procedure comprises only formalities check and registration. The registration is completed within 1-2 months after filing.

Community trademarks

Community trademarks, registered by the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market in Alicante, offer protection of trademarks at the territory of all member states of the European Community.

The following documents are necessary for registering a community trademark:

  • Trademark owner details
  • Representation of the trademark
  • List of goods and/or services for which the trademark is to be registered
  • Priority details
  • Power of attorney

After a formalities check, the trademark is published. The publication triggers a 3-month time limit for filing opposition by parties who have the same or similar trademarks registered or filed for the same or similar goods/services as a Community trademark or a national trademark in any of the European Union member states. If no opposition is filed, the trademark is registered approximately 9 months after filing.
